Steamwerks Reptile Emporium and Madame X presents the sixth in a serial of brief Film Logs featuring Maternal Incubation of Ball Python Eggs.

Number of Eggs in Clutch: Nine (All Fertile) Date Laid: 2/19/2015

Mother: Imported WC Gravid 3220 gram female (Madame Echidna)
Sire: Unknown Wild Male or Males

Week 1 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86 Degrees F
Week 2 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86 Degrees F
Week 3 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86 Degrees F
Week 4 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86.5 Degrees F

At the end of week four post-lay (Yay! 30 days in and about that still to go!) and all is going smoothly thus far. This week was pretty much the same as it has been. I offered food this week for the fourth attempt at feeding. Madame Echidna was still not interested, but is maintaining a good body condition overall through this fasting period. Stay tuned for next week's update!

I do not disturb Madame Echidna on a regular basis other than checking for damp sphagnum, water bowl change out, occasional temp checks and once weekly filming.

I institute a 6 month quarantine for new arrivals to my collection. Therefore, when I purchased this gravid gal, I needed to allow for the eggs she was carrying to be quarantined as well during that time span. I only have one incubator and have not had much luck when utilizing hovabators or ice chest/cooler setups. Maternal incubation is, in my opinion, the perfect solution here to avoid any possible contamination to my single incubator or the rest of my ectothermic collection.
