Steamwerks Reptile Emporium and Madame X presents a Film Log featuring the first ever litter of Colombian Rainbow Boas born here at Steamwerks. This was from a pairing of virgin four year old adults. Two of the babies have partial striping on their necks. Eight slugs and one still born baby were also produced from this pairing.

I feel very blessed to have gotten four live, healthy newborns from a first litter when I've heard from so many that they slugged out entirely on firsts.

Steamwerks' Reptile Emporium is proud to present a film log featuring the first hatchling Panther (Pictus) Gecko Companion.

I was beyond excited recently to have the opportunity to add a 1.2 breeding group of these adorable little characters to my companion line-up. Even more exciting is hatching out this first tiny anerythristic baby from them!

Steamwerks Reptile Emporium and Madame X presents the sixth in a serial of brief Film Logs featuring Maternal Incubation of Ball Python Eggs.

Number of Eggs in Clutch: Nine (All Fertile) Date Laid: 2/19/2015

Mother: Imported WC Gravid 3220 gram female (Madame Echidna)
Sire: Unknown Wild Male or Males

Week 1 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86 Degrees F
Week 2 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86 Degrees F
Week 3 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86 Degrees F
Week 4 Average Temperature of Dam and Eggs: 86.5 Degrees F

At the end of week four post-lay (Yay! 30 days in and about that still to go!) and all is going smoothly thus far. This week was pretty much the same as it has been. I offered food this week for the fourth attempt at feeding. Madame Echidna was still not interested, but is maintaining a good body condition overall through this fasting period. Stay tuned for next week's update!

I do not disturb Madame Echidna on a regular basis other than checking for damp sphagnum, water bowl change out, occasional temp checks and once weekly filming.

I institute a 6 month quarantine for new arrivals to my collection. Therefore, when I purchased this gravid gal, I needed to allow for the eggs she was carrying to be quarantined as well during that time span. I only have one incubator and have not had much luck when utilizing hovabators or ice chest/cooler setups. Maternal incubation is, in my opinion, the perfect solution here to avoid any possible contamination to my single incubator or the rest of my ectothermic collection.

The eggs hatched this week! It was a lovely clutch of normal... other than there being two sets of twins!!
